Petland comment.
We had to give our Morkie over to Animal Services. She was purchased at
Ft. Myers, Petland in Feb. 2012 for $900, We have since that time spent an
additional $1000+ in veterinary bills. Most recently $450 trying to
determine the reason for her Addison type symptoms. Several tests provided no positive diagnosis. Further tests were too costly and therefore not an option
for us.
Repeated calls to Petland for advice on our options were met with little
assistance or advice.. Being on a fixed income we had little recourse other
than giving her up in hopes that Animal services could provide her needed
medical care and then find her a home that can meet any special needs in the
future.
We are very dissapointed in your customer assistance and unwillingness to assume any responsibility for this puppie.

Yes, Petland, Pet Kingdom, any high dollar pet store anywhere in the world is going to suck. Where do you think they get their puppies? Breeders. Breeders don't really get checked up on like they should therefore they don't raise the dogs in the greatest of facilities to begin with. Mostly inbred, high strung, & disease prone dogs come from breeders.
$2350+ is the amount of $ you spent on this dog, right? Do you realize that for $75-$275, depending on which shelter you went to, could have been all you spend which includes shots, treatment for any disease they may have, & spay/neuter. None of which were included in your $900 purchase from Petland. Maybe now you'll understand how important it is to adopt (even a puppy if thats what you want) instead of breaking the bank of your fixed income & then youre supporting people who actually care for the well being of animals as opposed to supporting breeders & pet stores that only see dogs as dollar signs. Period.

You're on a limited income, but you spent money on a puppy from Petland? There isn't a puppy in the place for less than $800.00 That doesn't sound like a very wise decision in the first place.

Google "puppy Mills". All pet stores get their puppies from puppy mills. Dogs are kept in deporable conditions, being kept in small boxes 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for their entire lives. Some never see the light of day. They recieve no medical care or grooming. They have no human interaction. Their sole purpose is to produce litter after litter after litter of puppies for pet stores.

This information isn't new. Unless you've been living under a rock, or were just too ignorant to care (until your puppy got sick), then you already knew there was a big controversy regading puppy mills.

Everytime someone purchases a dog from a pet store, they are keeping puppy mills going. It's disgusting.

Stores that sell puppies must be boycotted. You could have adopted a dog or puppy from a shelter for less than $100.00 and it would have been FULLY vetted.

Sadly, your puppy is the one who has to suffer for your lack of planning.
