Today (May, 9) I read that 250 people will lose their jobs in Dorado and Carolina.(San Juan Star, May 9, 2008 page B-1)

Biovail is by it's own admission a company with a failing business model. They are retrenching to Canada. They intend to move their 'repackaging' business elsewhere. That would be somewhere they can increase and decrease their workforce as necessary without bumping up against the convoluted Puerto Rican labor laws that actually make employers who hire people steer clear of Puerto Rico. The only businesses moving here are capital intensive and need few employees--just enough to keep the machinery operating.

The Labor Laws in Puerto Rico are in the Stone Ages....Companies in Europe, South America and Asia are avoiding this place like the plague...

The Populares have removed the Military, gave every break in the World to the Employees with Maternit, Annual, Vacation and this ridiculous 25 holiday period and over 5 holidays in the month of July...

We have so many freaking holidays, sometimes I forget whose name we are supposely celebrating...

Throw in the utility and telephoen service rates and the constant traffic disruptions and the daily nauseating marches, protests and demonstrations that make this Island a 3rd rate Banana Republic..

The 936 is long gone and there's no icentives to bring a company here with all the obstacles that are present under these obnoxious Labor Laws...

Go ahead Puerto Rico.....celebrate your holidays, your vacation and your sick and maternity leave...
the future is bleak and just wait Congress will "dispose of this Island and flush the toliet"

Let's put the Populares back in Fortaleza so everyone can start buying or packing their bags....start buying yoru luggage now before the prices double....

Happy Mothers Day (I Think)

You're such a whiner! I don't think it's a German thing. I spent a year and a half in Schweinfurt. The men didn't seem like whiners. I think it's a "you" thing.

It's a tiny island. What are you doing to help? What are you doing other than whining?
