Church to deny communion to politicians who back abortion

A Roman Catholic archbishop has ordered priests in his southern Philippine archdiocese to deny communion to pro-abortion politicians, as the country's predominant church tries to persuade the government to keep contraceptives and abortion out of people's reach.

Abortion is illegal in the Philippines, where critics accuse President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo of contributing to the burgeoning population and crushing poverty by following the Roman Catholic Church's policy of emphasising natural family planning methods.

Former President Fidel Ramos, the only Protestant president, chided Arroyo last week for not having a comprehensive family planning policy due to "unwarranted subservience to the Catholic church." He said "mothers' lives and health, together with their babies, are now being put at risk for political expediency and religious narrow-mindedness."

The Church should start from themselves. So many priests/nuns are becoming materialistic.

When the church starts to involve them in the affair of the state, the church should not be given exemption from paying taxes. The Catholic Church prohibits birth control and abortion and yet they do not involve themselves in helping and feeding those families who cannot put food on their table to feed children. The church let the government to give social assistance for the poor families needs. BUT OUT OF THE GOVERNMENT'S AFFAIR!

The Catholic Church is big business! There strong stance against family planning is causing overpopulation in a country that is already stretched to the seams. If the Vatican had any compassion for their fellow man they would not keep preaching that it is fine to have as many babies as you want. What they are not saying is they are not worried about the one's who are malnourished. Not that far from being crimes against humanity!! Amen!!

Double standard. Some priests want to make babies too. They're almost bankrupt paying those sex abuses by priests. But how about those not known or exposed yet? I know there are a lot of victims who are afraid or ashamed to come forward...

Are they tax free in the Philippines?

Are they allowed to determine their own doctrine, or must they submit to government policy as church teaching?

Well there is Catholic Relief Services that provides assistance in every country on earth.

Which of its teachings do you think the Catholic Church should be allowed to proclaim? Which government agency should decide?

Catholic Relief Services? A nearby church has a canteen, souvenir store and pay to enter garden. Of course, open during mass. The CR, masama amoy! Quite a few security guards on duty to keep an eye out for pick pockets and snatchers! I just love the carnival atmosphere! Hmm, met a cute girl there just before the priest handed out stale cookies! The majority of underfed children are Catholic. Many children are to poor to attend public school much less the for profit Catholic schools. Oops, almost forgot, there are always children begging on church property at mass time! Catholic Relief Service? Where?

The Church should be concern more about the sex abuse cases against them, then who takes communion. The problem with the Catholic Church is they want to control everything. When it cones to communion if they read the Scriptures they will realize one is to examine themselves. Peace

Not only sex abuse but all kinds of abuses. One Parish Priest refused last sacraments to the dead if it is his rest day. It happened three times. But we put things straight with him.

Did you know that in California alone, that nearly 90,000 children were sexually abused in the year 2000? They were abused by fathers, step-fathers, brothers, uncles, mothers, sisters and others that include coaches, teachers, neighbors, babysitters, strangers and friends. Priests were on the bottom of the list.

Regardless of commits this act it is a crime and if found guilty in court be sentenced to do time. Are priest immune to prison time? Monetary settlement is an open admission of guilt!

Devils are running over the minds of evil people. What a catastrophe! With all the past tsunamis, earthquakes, floods, lightings, burnings that killed thousands if not millions totalling the whole world, what can I say, but to pray for the souls of the fallen christians. I'm just praying very hard, that the "big earthquake" predicted to happen in CA would never happen!
