This only goes to show that, as long as the market allows for true competition, and as long as governments protect the right to compete, then price-fixing -- whether attempted by governments or OPEC-style cartels -- is doomed to failure. Some would say it is doomed, regardless, but if government gets cozy with one or more favored players in the game, they can make things tough on competitors and consumers alike, creating a lot of spurious misery before the economic interventions fail.
