Chamber of Mines want gov't to combat illegal mining

The Ghana Chamber of Mines says government must deploy all strategies to combat the illegal mining menace affecting mining communities. The President of the Chamber, Johan Ferreira, made the appeal when he led a six-member delegation from the Chamber of Mines to officially pay a courtesy call on the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Mr. Akwasi Opong-Fosu, in Accra to find ways of establishing partnerships between government and the chamber which will help improve the nation's mining industry.

Midwife expresses concern over teenage pregnancy

Mrs Vida Takyiwaa, Midwife in-charge of Gonasua Health Centre in the Jaman South District of Brong-Ahafo Region, has expressed concern about the alarming proportion of teenage pregnancy in the area. She said because of the rate of teenage pregnancy among girls between 15 and 16 years, school dropout was very high in the area.

No new fees on imports - GSA assures

The Ghana Standards Authority has debunked reports that the recently launched Ghana Conformity Assessment Programme which takes effect from 1st October, 2014, seeks to introduce its own pre-shipment inspection rules to impose new fees on importers. The GSA in a statement issued in Accra said contrary to the misconceptions and fabrications against the GCAP, the Authority, in collaboration with SGS and BIVAC, seeks to enhance its Conformity Assessment Programme designed to ensure that specific products meet the requirements of the Technical Regulations and Standards set in the importing country.

Cuba sending dozens of doctors to fight Ebola

Cuba's health ministry said Friday it is sending more than 160 health workers to help stop the raging Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone, providing a much-needed injection of medical expertise in a country where health workers are in short supply. "If we are going to go to war with Ebola, we need the resources to fight," she said.

Journalist assault case against ex Ghana striker Baffour Gyan adjourned

The assault case brought against Baffour Gyan and Samuel Anim Addo by Graphic journalist has been adjourned to September 19. The elder brother of the Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan and his business manager and spokesman Samuel Anim Addo are standing trial over two counts of assault. Ghana stands risk of importing Polio

Though Ghana has not recorded a case of polio since 2008, it stands a greater risk of importing the disease with reported cases from some African countries. Until all countries, especially neighbouring ones are free, Ghana cannot stand aloof due to the infectious nature of the disease.
