Hi, Tegadalay, how are you I have to agree with your view 100% for the first time. God knows their reason for supporting Shek Sharif. Probably they are desperate to establish a government in Somalia form where they can access African affairs just like they access information in regards to Eritrea from Ethiopia. The USA is more likely not to care about finding out the truth as long as their interests are given a priority. But thats personal view and assumption that I have. And the real reason into why the U.S.A is supporting shek Sharif could be any thing.

Tegadaley they want eritrean to broker a peace plan and Fix it up..this is not the usa this is ethiopian goverment asking the usa to get eritrea involved to fix up the mess they put themself in,and thats why eritrea is giving the cold shoulder because they didnt create this mess and secondly they know its more of ethiopian desire, its dirty politics get eritrea involved.

Yaya: the US actually really needs and wants some kind of normalcy in Somalia, not because it cared about the Somalis but because it really is worried and afraid that Somalia might become another Afganistan. They are not doing this for Ethiopia, although they don't mind it if it helps their ally Ethiopia along the way. They want this to work mainly for themselves so that they don't have to worry about another Alkaida revival.

I belive the US's main interest in Eritrea here is for Eritrea to NOT help anyone group (Alshabab, that is) who might stregthen the "islamists" to get hold of the country.

The usa doesnt like when someone plays the same game they have been playing with the world for the last 60 years, eritrean intreset is not the same as the usa intreset so why should we follow their instructions like sheeps as ethiopia does and destroy ourselves, with america no matter how much you compromise at the end they will still destroy you but you end up giving everything up for them, look at ethiopia in the last 18 years the sold every right and national resources to western companies and still tomorrow if obama puts zenawi on icc list for human violation that compromise for the last 18 years meant nothing.in 1996 america demanded the eritrean goverment to give away the rights of all natural resources in eritrea to american companies as they requested the meles goverment...meles signed stright away eritrea responded by saying this resources doesnt belong to our generation but to the next...you wonder why the following year the meles goverment started looking for war and used the border as an escuse.

USA's wants peace in Somalia?? Is that why they financed, trained, supported warlords who been feeding on their own for 17 years against the Islamic courts back in 2006?

http://www.alternet.org/story/46424/

"The stability that emerged in southern Somalia after 16 years of utter lawlessness is gone, the defeat of the ruling Islamic Courts Union now ushering in looting, martial law and the prospect of another major anti-Western insurgency. Clan warlords, who terrorized Somalia until they were driven out by the Islamists, and who were put back in power by the U.S.-backed and -trained Ethiopian army, have begun carving up the country once again.

With these developments, the Bush administration, undeterred by the horrors and setbacks in Iraq, Afghanistan and Lebanon, has opened another battlefront in this volatile quarter of the Muslim world. As with Iraq, it casts this illegal war as a way to curtail terrorism, but its real goal appears to be to obtain a direct foothold in a highly strategic area of the world through a client regime. The results could destabilize the whole region."

The Horn of Africa, at whose core Somalia lies, is newly oil-rich. It is also just miles across the Red Sea from Saudi Arabia and Yemen, overlooking the daily passage of large numbers of oil tankers and warships through that waterway. The United States has a huge military base in neighboring Djibouti that is being enlarged substantially and will become the headquarters of a new U.S. military command being created specifically for Africa. As evidence of the area's importance, Gen. John Abizaid, the military commander of the region, visited Ethiopia recently to discuss Somalia, while Chinese President Hu Jintao visited Horn countries a few months ago in search of oil and trade agreements.

The current series of events began with the rise of the Islamic Courts more than a year ago. The Islamists avoided large-scale violence in defeating the warlords, who had held sway in Somalia ever since they drove out U.N. peacekeepers by killing eighteen American soldiers in 1993, by rallying people to their side through establishing law and order. Washington was wary, fearing their possible support for terrorists. While they have denied any such intentions, some Islamists do have terrorist ties, but these have been vastly overstated in the West.

you said it....somalia first and foremost needs stability and security..whats been a puppet regime for america that will sell anything to the western company and compromise the value and culture of the country and still have internal problems?america doesnt want somali to be united..the one way they managed to unite through the religion america labelled it a terrorist so they cant use the religion to unite...are you people too stupid or too scared to see what america wants.

I think it is well known what the US wants: a government that obeys and/or facilitates what the
US wants regardless of the other's interests. The very reason why it is cross against Eritrea, which doesn't accept this kind of demands from anyone.

Also, there is no doubt that the US wants stability in Somalia for its own sake. It is also well known that Al Shebab is there for its own sake as well, not that of the US. Therefore they are in a collusion course. Maybe the US didn't care that much what happened in Somalia before nine/eleven (thus the funding of warlords), but after that and after realising that Somalia could be a safe heaven for this or that terrorist, they wanted stability for their own sake-which means with some puppet government such as the one right now.
