Heavy breathing (16 of the 20 most polluted cities in the world are in China)

Cyclist Bobby Lea of Topton is looking forward to competing in the Beijing Olympics in three weeks, but not to breathing in the city's heavy smog. ''I think it's going to be a concern for everyone,'' said Lea, who along with fellow Olympian Giddeon Massie of Quakertown competed last December in a World Cup at the Beijing velodrome that served as a test event for the arena. ''It was so bad there that I had a sore throat within a half hour of being on the ground, by the time I was checking into the hotel,'' the 24-year-old Lea said Monday after an Olympic send-off at the White House with President Bush.

We thought we had pollution problems in this country. Our problems apparently do not even compare to China.

If the smog and pollution is so incredibly bad, why did the IOC agree to have the games there?? In fact, why would they allow the games to be held in a totalitarian state where human rights are routinely violated and they're in illegal occupation of Tibet? If our president had any guts he'd boycott the games. This is disgraceful.

It's called bribes. The Chinese dictators gave them enough money to buy the Olympics. But, in these days of money talks, nothing else matters.

Olympics are becoming a bigger problem then they are worth dollar wise and people wise.

Beijing authorities are secretly planning to ban black people and others it considers social undesirables from entering the city's bars during the Olympic Games.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/19/no-b...

More than 2 million people have been moved from their homes over the past 20 years, many of them forcibly, to clear space for the Olympic Games. 30,000 people were displaced in the gentrification and development for Atlanta in 1996]

that could be plausible. I mean they are trying to convince the world that things are changing there.. Yet we see them scrambling to fix things to give a false image that things are becoming better for this almost modern civilization. Bottom line is that you can polish a turd, but everyone knows its just sh!t anyway.

While we do everything possible to reduce the effects of the so-called global warming, countries like China are frankly destroying this planet. Where are the protests? Why do we bash ourselves but not China, India, Russia, etc...? Thank you to our government for sending our business and industry to China so that we can not only be economically crushed but also polluted.

We are one planet and what any of us do to hurt the Earth hurts all of us. Any nation that allows toxic waste dumping anywhere on the planet is hurting their own people as well as all the people of Earth and too all life forms. To me this is the most serious problem we face on earth,
pollution. This pollution has been found to be altering humans and all life forms DNA and making life more and more sterile with a projected extinction date for man at 400 years from now. To overcome a problem it helpd greatly to know you have a problem. An easy book to read which expounds very well on the subject is; Our Stolen Future.

Get a grip. Why did the IOC give the Olympics to Hitler in 1932 - because he bribed them? Why did the IOC give the Olympic games to Mexico City in 1968? The city was the same ****hole that it is now. And yes, I have lived in China AND Mexico. They did this so that they could help facilitate a country to become what it isn't now. Why did the IOC give the Olympics to South Korea? For the same reasons. Why am I even trying. You can't reason with ignorance.

Let me guess RepuliCRAP? This bit of wisdom comes from someone who very likely helped put Bush into office for ANOTHER four years.

If the president had the guts to boycott the Olympics, China just might have the guts to cash in the 650 billion dollars in debt that the U.S. currently OWES China. How's that for bluffing? That would create a global crisis worth consideration. Be careful for what you ask.

This is a good article by Mr. Blockus. I have been hammering this issue for months in my little paper, Santa Fe Sun News, as Managing Editor, and in blogs and websites all over the world. No one seems to care nor even begin to recognize the gravity of these endurance athletes' predicament. I think several will die, unless Jacques Rogge waits for a windy day, or moves them entirely out of Beijing, as I have been calling on him to do for about a month! This is my latest article on this subject, from: http://www.transworldnews.com/NewsStory.aspx...
