Aren't you going to blame Bush for this? Surely he ordered the CIA to ram one boat into the other.

I was there right after that happened. Safety in Bolivia is not what it should be. No life jackets on those small ferry boats and the boats do not have lights. It was very cold there that night and most people had fairly heavy clothes on. Our guide also said that most people there do not know how to swim. It was a definite tragedy and very eerie when we crossed on one of the larger barges as they were still looking for people. Moral-Do not cross the lake there when it is dark.

Debbie - the moral of this story is that this is a nation composed almost exclusively of selfish, idiots who do things in the most expediant and profitable way for THEM. There is a reason Bolivia is the second poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere and why it is the poorest in all Latin America. It is because of the people who live here.

The county is physically beautiful and it can be a nice place to visit. But after living here for some time, you realize that Bolivia will never even approach the level of development of such countries as El Salvador or Mexico. And that is really saying something.

Anyway, I am glad that you're safe and I hope that you enjoyed your visit.

the old saying goes: never say never.
I...(just me now,not saying YOU have to)..will always have faith that Bolivia will soon overcome the many missing pieces that will bring it up to par. I am sure you don't include yourself in the "selfish idiot" group. And you DO live there.
SEE? it's already getting better , right! Just like the US operates on a combination of regulated capitalism and social services with limits, Bolivia will eventually get there too. Thanks
