Come on, one poster made reference to the student being a gook, which is considered to be a very mild racial term compared to other terms for Asians.

Considering what he was caught with, if he had've been Anglo they wouldn't have been any easier on him.

This seems to be a common theme in all the Australian threads. Fighting political correctness is one thing, however the crude use of prejudicial language is an anaethma to modern Australians who have moved on from the days of the hard drinking hard talking Aussie. There are some good threads on interesting subjects that don't require the use of inflammatory language.

Aussies are hardly the only ones using inflammatory language on topix.

A teenager charged with selling drugs to his classmates in Wantirna, in Melbourne's outer east, has been refused bail in the Ringwood Magistrates Court.

Robert Tran, 18, of Wantirna South, wept as he was brought into the dock to face a series of a drug charges, including trafficking heroin to children.

Tran, who was still wearing his Wantirna College polo shirt, represented himself in an application for bail after being arrested by police yesterday.

"I really want to go home and if I get home I will stay home," Tran told the court.

He said he would see a youth worker and surrender his passport to police if he was given bail.

However, police opposed the application as they regarded the offences as serious and alleged that Tran might reoffend to make up for the loss of drugs seized by police, with an estimated street value of up to $20,000.
