Crying schoolboy faces heroin trafficking charge:

A teenager charged with selling drugs to his classmates in Wantirna, in Melbourne's outer east, has been refused bail in the Ringwood Magistrates Court.

Robert Tran, 18, of Wantirna South, wept as he was brought into the dock to face a series of a drug charges, including trafficking heroin to children.

He was charged with trafficking heroin to minors, possessing heroin, possessing ecstasy and possessing banned fireworks.

Police also allege Tran was in possession of drug trafficking equipment, including electronic scales, deal balloons, two mobile phones, a black book, spoon, pliers and plastic bags.

"I really want to go home and if I get home I will stay home," Tran told the court.

He said he would see a youth worker and surrender his passport to police if he was given bail.

However, police opposed the application as they regarded the offences as serious and alleged that Tran might re-offend to make up for the loss of drugs seized by police, with an estimated street value of up to $25,000.

The police had some hard things to say about the young man. Hopefully he can mitigate by reason of addiction or it will go hard with him.
