Yesterday the Prime Minister and other world leaders sat down to an 18-course gastronomic extravaganza at a G8 summit in Japan, which is focusing on the food crisis.
The dinner, and a six-course lunch, at the summit of leading industrialised nations on the island of Hokkaido, included delicacies such as caviar, milkfed lamb, sea urchin and tuna, with champagne and wines flown in from Europe and the U.S.Comments

4 This was a lunch for the Heads of State for eight of the most powerful nations in the world. What are they going to do, order carryout from Kentucky Fried Chicken? These are the big shooters. Big as they get. When they share a meal, it's going to be a nice one. They can do beans and rice on their own time. |

3 They are the hypocrites greedy leaders in over consumption. The cause of poverty(those leaders) can never solve world hunger problems. I don't whish those dodgy leaders good health. |

1 They should have just given them all a bottle of Mad Dog and a Whopper with cheese since these are the same people who are the authors of slums. |

1 The fact that they don't even seem to realize how bad this looks to the rest of us is a measure of just how secure they feel. Someone more sensitive to the value of good public relations would have sent out for chicken salad. |

I have seen this kind of behaviour before! I was at a conference that was quite frugal and did not supply any breakfast rolls. So I roamed about in this conference building where all sorts of other meetings were being held. Turned out that across the hall from my meeting there was a huge breakfast being served to some world hunger organization. No kidding. Me and a friend asked if we could have some breakfast. Sure! This was like the breakfast buffets you see in fancy hotels. So I can see where this is happening here, too.
Strange world we live in. |

2 "what are they going to do, order carryout from Kentucky Fried Chicken?", wonders "strut2k". Come on, stop being an apologist for one of the most hypocritical displays of elitism and snobbery as well as a singularly tasteless inconsistency with the supposed purpose of the meeting. Under the circumstances, even fried chicken might have been a luxury. Tofu and vegetable fried rice would have been in order. Just think. These are the people who will soon be rationing your health care, as well as your energy. |
