As if they didn't know that was going to happen.

What do the Government offical think is in the food?? GUNS??? DRUGS to get high on? Are they crazy? The people should start a rebellion. This is a crime against humanity. Simply amazing to me that hands of giving are slapped! Silly.

Maybe we should be threatening the government with UN troops to ensure delivery. These people need to go.

The food and supplies will be redirected to the local military and politicians. It happens everywhere. The local regime always takes the most and may or may not give the rest to of the population who should have gotten the lion's share to begin with.

They will use it to keep the Army and Inner Circle well fed thus maintaining control. It is sad but there isn't much we can do other than walking away.

Need a UN with some balls for a change, not just a relief agency.
|
|
Let's stop all attempts to help the Burmese
people, return all aid, The Burmese Govt. does not want anyone to help them apparently. No problem. I'm sure all the nations trying to help have better thing to do. |

Be informed that aid to developing countries becomes sale to developing countries when it gets there. These so called aids are transformed into a veritable source of enrichment for the officials vested with the responsility of distribution. For aids to get to the needy,it must be distributed directly by the donors otherwise, forget it.

It is quite frustrating to deal with this kind of government. Their people are in need and they don't give damn about it.
I like "wyojake" 's suggestion -- UN should be made into elite capable multi-national military forces that decide and dictate course of actions to be taken for the goodness of humans of all nations. |

Most countries laugh at UN "troops". They are mainly passive by standers.
The UN doesn't give their troops any teeth. For instance. Hezbollah was under orders from the UN to not rearm, and they sent in thousands of "troops" to enforce the resolution. We all see how that has worked the last few days.

Yhe UN does do some things well, Relief work is one. No it will take the people or another country to uproot the Junta. And probably another country.

Point about giving them some balls. Ever wonder why the UN is so ineffective and stands by watching? Serving like a barricade waiting to be fired on? Think about it. If we aren't going to support it - it doesn't exist. Maybe should be a national referendum in the US about our continued membership. Maybe we should undo all the treaties we have ever signed that are no longer meaningful, NATO for example. Maybe we should act alone in pre-emptive strikes against another nation and violate all the rules of world order to save its people.(Hmmm...think we did that already - maybe not a good idea all the time - nations might get the wrong impression.)If the UN is nothing more than an international Red Cross - get out of it. We can give the aid to those we deem worthy of it. And deny it to those in need but controlled by antagonistic governments - those poor people can die. Guess compassion is no longer backed with fortitude and resolve. Guess the smallest and poorest nations no longer count equally in the world's make-up. How far backward we have gone. Better build a fire in front of the cave before turning in. |

Seriously? I know why the UN is ineffective. It's called human nature. Every country represented in the UN is going to do what is in their best interest INCLUDING the US.
I know that you were being sarcastic, but I think alot of people would agree that the US should pull out of the UN. The rest of your post is just a rehash of crap that is all over these forums. Except for one thing. Organizations like NATO are successful. World security would be better served if there were more of them.

Came in handy in Kosovo, faltering in Afghanistan. We end up being the troops that die anyhow. Somehow that doesn't work for me. If the other parties are going to be doorman at a hotel while we do the field. Useless organization. |
There are nutjobs everywhere, Kaso. He doesn't speak for the Americans. |
