    Since a Tonga Police Task Force investigation began in August last year, 11 people have been charged in relation to alleged fraudulent activities over the issuing of Tongan passports and the investigation is continuing in Nuku'alofa. Police Commissioner Stephen Caldwell said today he gave direction for this current phase of the passport investigation, which began on 25 August last year, and since then they have made 11 arrests on wide ranging charges that are now before the Court.

Forecasters at the Joint Typhoon Warning Center or JTWC noted that Victor is on a weakening trend, however, warnings were in effect in Tonga on Jan. 21. Warmer cloud top temperatures means that convection has started to weaken.

A spokesperson from Tonga Police confirmed the temporary closure to commuters was due to the high tidal waves reaching up to 2 metres yesterday, 21 January.
