    Interim inner border checks can hardly be challenged unless a system of reliable protection of the Schengen area is secured, Czech Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaoralek said on Monday, reacting to six countries request that the EC enable them to prolong the interim border checks. Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany and Sweden seek the prolongation of the checks on their borders, which are inner borders within the Schengen area of the free movement of people, by another six months.

    A new museum dedicated to the Trabant car, the most popular product of the East German car industry that was well-known in the former Czechoslovakia, and showing the complete history of this two-stroke engine vehicle was opened in Prague-Motol on Sunday, May 1. The exhibition presents various models of the car, including its predecessors, the P70 vehicle from the 1950s and the P60, the best known Trabant 601 and the last Trabant 1.1 that had a four-stroke engine from the Volkwagen Polo and was produced at the turn of the 1980s and the 1990s. An old garage with a Trabant race car that is being repaired can be seen as well as toy models of the Trabant and typical camping equipment used by Trabant owners in the past.

    Stallions of the rare Przewalski's horse will be transported from Europe to China in order to refresh their local breeding, according to a cooperation agreement Prague Zoo director Miroslav Bobek has signed in China, he told CTK. Bobek signed the agreement with the Xinjiang Przewalski Wild Horse Breeding and Research Center , which breeds the horses and returns them to the wild in the Karamaily nature reserve.
