    One of the greatest living legends of Cuban music, Chucho Valdes, will come to the Kuumbwa Jazz Center for back-to-back concerts of solo piano, Monday and Tuesday, May 22 and 23. Nearly 45 years ago, Valdes was the founder and bandleader of the Cubano supergroup Irakere, an ambitious and dynamic band that produced, among others, stars such as trumpeter Arturo Sandoval and saxophonist Paquito D'Rivera, not to mention Valdes himself. The son of the great post-war bandleader Bebo Valdes, Chucho Valdes used his position in Irakere to bring innovations to Afro-Cuban jazz and to cultivate audiences outside of Cuba, winning a Grammy for Irakere's self-titled album in 1979.
