    When Spotify introduced its new "hate content and hateful conduct" policy-which promises to suppress songs for violent or hateful lyrics or offstage behavior-I predicted that the streaming service would soon be caught between users wanting easy access to popular music and activists demanding that artists be scrubbed from the platform. Sure enough, the feminist group Ultraviolet has now sent a letter to Spotify thanking it for the initial steps of removing R. Kelly and XXXTentacion from official playlists- and asking that the company go further.

    Women's advocacy group Ultraviolet is applauding Spotify's new policy banning hate content and hateful conduct that has brought with it high profile removals of R. Kelly and XXXTentacion from curated playlists, but in an open letter published Monday is also asking for more. As well as R. Kelly and XXXTentacion, the letter written by Ultraviolet executive director Shaunna Thomas requests that Spotify take action against other artists who have been accused of sexual misconduct, including Chris Brown , Red Hot Chili Peppers , Nelly , Eminem and others.

    Stone Gossard, guitarist for Pearl Jam, wrote the instrumentals for the song "Dollar Short," which later became "Alive" as part of a three-song demo they made at London Bridge Studio while looking for a lead singer and drummer. One of Gossard's friends, Jack Irons, who played drums for the Red Hot Chili Peppers was approached about joining the band, but had other commitments, he did have an idea for a singer though.

    After debuting at last year's New Zealand International Film Festival, Swagger of Thieves is back in select Kiwi cinemas from May 17. One of my favourite Head Like a Hole stories - it may even be true - is of the night in 1992 they supported The Red Hot Chili Peppers in Wellington and how the contract banned any members of Head Like a Hole from playing naked that night. If you were around Wellington in the early and mid-1990's you couldn't not be aware of the music thundering out of various dives in Cuba and Willis streets.
