It's a couple hours before an intimate show in New York's Meatpacking District, and Bomba EstA reo's Li Saumet is bright and energetic. I'm the second VerA3nica she's just met - after texting to announce my arrival at the venue, I missed my name through my headphones blasting their latest excellent album, Amanecer , and a different VerA3nica, a fan, was escorted down, excited but confused.

It is a time of fear in the face of freedom, a time of an emptying country and swelling cities, a time for the widening of previous roads and the opening of new paths, yet a time when these paths are mined by knowing algorithms of the all-seeing eye. It is the time of the warrior's peace and the miser's charity, when the planting of a seed is an act of conscientious objection.

Young people in attendance at a rally on the initial Earth Day in 1970. The Sixties ended with the expectation that a new dawn was upon us, but Reagan's version of a "shining city on the hill"-not to mention George W. Bush's, Bill Clinton's, and Barack Obama's-has meant that not even the modest dreams and demands of the 1970s have yet been met.

Supporters of the NO vote in the upcoming referendum hold a banner with colors of the Greek flag reading ''NO, OXI'' during a rally at Syntagma on Monday. As the Council of Europe, the EU's top human rights body, on Wednesday ruled that a Greek referendum scheduled for this Sunday falls short of international standards and steep speculation circulates that Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, scheduled to address the nation shortly, may actually cancel the vote, all eyes are on Greece on Wednesday as the acceptance of a bailout agreement for the struggling nation may now once again be in the offing.

They were the nut butters that Virginia Republicans put forth to run as a ticket for governor and lieutenant governor two years ago, and both lost gloriously-Cuccinelli, to a former DNC chair who ran as a loud-and-proud progressive, and Jackson, who got crushed by a punishing 11-point margin. Democrats can thank the GOP profusely for both opponents, because Republicans spurned more electable options by choosing to select their nominees at a party convention rather than via a traditional primary.
