The Houston Dynamo have played four games and scored 11 goals. Through their first three games, in which they scored seven times, only once did they score in the second half, and they were outscored 5-1 in the second 45. So when the Dynamo went into the second half with their familiar 2-1 lead, fans were understandably weary about getting to hopeful, especially against a team like the Red Bulls.

There was little reason to expect much from Erick "Cubo" Torres coming into this season. His past two years with the Houston Dynamo were so bad that the Dynamo attempted to offload him to Cruz Azul, who declined a transfer option after his disastrous loan last year.

  11. Referee Fotis Bazakos is no goodRead the original story w/Photo

    Apr 3, 2017 | Once A Metro

The joke was on those watching and playing the game between Houston Dynamo and New York Red Bulls on April Fools' Day: Fotis Bazakos was the center ref, and he produced a display of remarkable ineptitude even by his own standard of consistently baffling officiating. When the complaint is made that refereeing in MLS is a joke, too often the punchline is Bazakos.

    Apr 1, 2017 | Once A Metro

Difficult as it is, this column will resist the temptation to rate referee Fotis Bazakos' officiating as '0' and leave it at that; Bazakos made a bad day worse for the New York Red Bulls, but it would have been injustice of a different sort had the Houston Dynamo failed to win the game. Houston did not look better from the start, just after about 15 minutes or so - by which time the score was 1-1 and it was clear RBNY was struggling to contain Houston on the counter, and to stop giving Houston opportunities to counter.
