Debbie Stabenow , ranking member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, promoted the plan Thursday during a hearing, calling it "the basis for a bipartisan solution." Ms. Stabenow's plan calls for a repeal of existing labels for beef and pork - which identify where animals are born, raised and slaughtered - and replacing them with voluntary labels that require all three steps to take place in the U.S. to be considered domestic meat.
