    Pirates, buccaneers and scallywags descended on Falmouth to climb the rigging and capture a well-known tall ship during a recent family fun day. Young swashbucklers swarmed over the Spirit of Falmouth, a 92-foot long tall ship moored at Port Pendennis Marina, at the event organised by RAF St Mawgan and Falmouth-based sailing charity Turn to Starboard.

    Crowds of people lined the jetty at Port Pendennis Marina and spectator boats took to the water to welcome home the crews of the Turn to Starboard Round Britain Challenge There cheers as the fleet crossed the official finish line at the end of their two month circumnavigation of the British Isles which saw them battle across 2,000 nautical miles of Britain's coastline. Three crews set sail from Falmouth on board the Spirit of Falmouth, a 92-foot long tall ship, and two support yachts on June 1. After spending two months sailing in an anti-clockwise direction around the British Isles, the team arrived home one day ahead of the planned schedule.

    Falmouth's all weather lifeboat towed a French vessel with a broken rudder three and a half miles back to Falmouth on Sunday morning following an emergency broadcast. The 8.5 metre yacht Reder Vras, with four people on board, had been on passage from France to the UK when its rudder fixings failed and it was left without steering south of Pendennis Point.
