He added: "I am disappointed to report that despite the numerous messages from Police Scotland in relation to this year's Festive Drink/Drug Drive campaign, posted via various media outlets before and throughout the duration of the campaign, a number of selfish motorists in the region demonstrated a total disregard for their own safety and the safety of others by choosing to ignore the message and drive whilst under the influence of drink or drugs".

The area's current network consists of stations at Sanquhar, Thornhill, Moffat, New Galloway, Dumfries, Lockerbie, Castle Douglas, Newton Stewart, Langholm, Gatehouse, Annan, Kirkcudbright, Gretna, Stranraer and Drummore.
