    A group of people were out walking their dog in the area known as '20-acre field' at about 7.30am on Friday, January 15. They saw a young man running away down the canal path, and shortly after they heard the sound of a distressed dog and went to investigate. They found a sad-looking brindle female five month-old Staffordshire bull terrier cross type dog surrounded by mud and tied to a tree with a lead near the canal side car park.

    In March this year, Michael Overd, was convicted of breaching a public order offence at Bristol Crown Court following a two-day trial at Taunton Magistrates Court. But on Friday, Mr Overd, 50, of Creech St Michael, had his conviction overturned after Judge David Ticehurst ruled that the Crown Prosecution Service had failed to provide sufficient evidence to support the conviction against Mr Overd.
