    Ian Richard Kyle Paisley was born on April 6 1926 in Armagh into a family which, on his father's side, had roots in the Scottish settlers who came to the townland of Brackey near Sixmilecross in Co Tyrone in the early 17th century. Both the Paisley and Kyle families had been active in the Orange Order and Paisley's father, James Kyle Paisley, had been a member of the Ulster Volunteer Force during the Home Rule crisis of 1912-13.
