    The district-wide power outage on Tuesday left about 3,000 Innovative customers on St. Thomas and St. John without phone service because of failures of the back-up batteries in their EVO systems. Approximately 3,000 customers from the Crown & Hawk and Charlotte Amalie hubs on St. Thomas lost service due to battery failure, according to an Innovative statement.

    Government agencies suffered interruptions early Tuesday after island-wide power outages on St. Thomas, St. John and Water Island, with some agencies closing for the day even as the V.I. Water and Power Authority was restoring power. Although the Legislature has a backup generator and is capable of broadcasting the session live, Majority Leader Sammuel Sanes said the Senate wanted to wait because much of the island was still without power, and residents who did not have backup generators would not be able to view the session on television.
