Berrien County Prosecutor Michael Sepic has filed a motion requesting a new sentence with a minimum of 25 to 40 years behind bars, and no more than 60. Eliason will be re-sentenced on June 26. He had previously been sentenced to life behind bars with no parole, but a U.S. Supreme Court ruling in 2012 regarding no-parole sentences for minors resulted in a new Michigan law requiring prosecutors to file such a motion if a sentence of life without parole is sought for juvenile offenders convicted of first-degree murder.
