Police say an upstate New York man had his 10-year-old drive his pickup truck while he was sitting in the passenger seat drunk. The Times Union of Albany reports police in the Saratoga County town of Stillwater were contacted by a motorist on Saturday who saw the child driving the truck on Route 9P. Comment?

In the decades after the Civil War ended in April 1865, statues depicting Union and Confederate soldiers were placed in countless American communities, from New England commons to the grounds outside Southern courthouses. A century and a half later, these weathered "Silent Sentinels" still stand guard, most of them at "parade rest" with their muskets at the ready, gazing off in the distance. Comment?
