    After many years as an ad-hoc community group organizing events and other activities in Saratoga Springs' Beekman Street neighborhood, the Arts District on Beekman has been officially granted status as a 501 nonprofit entity, which makes it eligible for grants, sponsorships and other opportunities previously out of its reach. Among its first grants is $4,000 from Saratoga Arts.

    The nation's longest continuously operating coffeehouse is putting together a video featuring Arlo Guthrie and Garrison Keillor to celebrate the upstate New York folk music venue's impending renovations. The not-for-profit organization that runs Caffe Lena in downtown Saratoga Springs announced earlier this year that it will undergo $1.5 million in improvements to the building that houses the second-floor concert venue.

    Volunteers are getting their hands dirty for Sustainable Saratoga's third annual Tree Toga planting effort, which kicked off this morning at 10 a.m. They are scattered around the city as part of the nonprofit's Urban Forestry Project to plant 50 young trees, twice as many as last year thanks to donors who contributed to the tree fund. Tree Toga is a partnership between Sustainable Saratoga and the city's Department of Public Works , which provided 25 trees from its tree planting budget for the annual event.
