    A 14-year-old student was arrested Friday after a gun was found in his locker at Monte Vista High School on a chaotic day in which security precautions were put into effect at a total of five campuses in San Diego County, the Sheriff's Department reported. The Monte Vista campus, on Sweetwater Springs Boulevard south of state Route 94 in Spring Valley, was placed in lockdown around 10:30 a.m. when students reported that another pupil was in possession of a gun, according to a sheriff's statement.

    Authorities released the name Thursday of a 7-month-old girl fatally injured when an SUV struck her and her father in a Point Loma crosswalk. Juniper Aavang, whose family was visiting San Diego from Woodstock, Ill., was in a stroller when the northbound Chevrolet Suburban hit her and her 30-year-old father at Catalina Boulevard and Canon Street shortly before 6:30 a.m. Monday, according to San Diego police and the county Medical Examiner's Office.

Faulconer is speeding up the timeline for a new Chargers Stadium proposal, meeting with team owner Dean Spanos over the weekend. All this comes after last week's bombshell announcement that the team is working with the Oakland Raiders on a shared stadium plan in Carson , in case they can't get a new venue in San Diego.

    A two-alarm fire inside a four-story senior living facility in the East Village Friday left about 25 residents displaced, one injured and caused more than $500,000 in damage. The fire at the 200-unit Potiker Family Senior Residence at 525 14th St. was reported shortly before 8:30 a.m. Firefighters arrived to find smoke pouring from the window of a fourth-floor unit, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokesman Lee Swanson said.
