From the Oregon Coast Science Section: A host of new discoveries from NASA's Spitzer and Hubble space telescopes is helping us to understand more about the early years after the Big Bang - and it has found a new "beast" of a galaxy. Astronomers from California recently learned much more about the first five million years after the Big Bang, by coming up with the as-yet most accurate statistical estimate of the number of faint, small galaxies that existed then. The central Oregon coast town of Lincoln City will play host to some amazing objects in the skies on October 10 and 11. On those days, from 10 a..m to 4 p.m., it's the 37th Annual Lincoln City Fall Kite Festival, where the Star-Spangled Banner will be flying proudly. It's a different kind of patriotic-themed fireworks, as this year's theme is a "Salute to Veterans," honoring the nations' military service men and women. Comment?
President Obama's visit to Portland is expected to create numerous traffic issues around the area, but these will spill out into traffic heading to and from the Oregon coast at least a little on Thursday and Friday. The vast majority of traffic headaches will be experienced by those crossing Portland through downtown and I-84 on Thursday. Comment?
The time when a day at Portland's famed OMSI could also mean a day at the beach is getting just a bit closer. This Sunday is the groundbreaking ceremony for OMSI's Coastal Discovery Center at Camp Gray in Newport, where construction will officially begin. Comment?
