    Former Nash Central standout Trey Sumler returned Wednesday to the town, and the school, that taught him to survive and fend for himself, in the hopes that his inaugural, free basketball skills camp in the Bulldogs' gym would help the next generation of athletes in the Twin Counties learn what it takes to play at the high school level and beyond. Sumler, who went on to start a school-record 121 games and score 1,996 points at Western Carolina and played last season overseas in Denmark - where he led his team, the Aalborg Vikings, in scoring at just under 22 points per game - said no older, male role model had run any sort of camp while he was growing up in Rocky Mount.

    Trey Sumler had the opportunity to possibly stay on American soil and play basketball in cities similar in size to his hometown, Rocky Mount. Instead, the Nash Central High and Western Carolina graduate decided not to begin his career in the NBA's Developmental League and opted to play overseas.
