Bland's shot came tantalizingly close to capping what would have been a rare road win for the Highlanders and would have overshadowed a poor shooting second half overall for UCR, which led by seven early in the second half before going cold from the field.

    When last we watched UC Riverside men's basketball, it was March at the Honda Center, and Taylor Johns, all of 6-foot-7, was unleashing a resounding dunk on UC Irvine's 7-6 Mamadou Ndaiye. And the Highlanders were making the eventual Big West champion Anteaters sweat, a little more than a week before Irvine would do the same in the NCAA Tournament to Louisville.
