Eyres, a 1958 Seton Hall University graduate and 1981 Seton Hall Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, who was instrumental in helping the Pirates join the BIG EAST Conference. He was 81. "Seton Hall Athletics would not be where it is today if not for the passion, dedication and support of Bill Eyres," Seton Hall Director of Athletics & Recreation said.

The 6-foot-4, 190-pounder averaged 28.5 minutes, 13.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game for a 10-20 team that placed 15th in a 16-team league. Thornton, whose teammates included Landry Nnoko of Clemson and Jeremy Hazell of Seton Hall, led Pesaro in 3-pointers made and attempted .

    This is however about a day in infamy for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Pirates announcer Jim Rooker, as it was on this date back in 1989 that Rooker, with the Pirates sending 16 batters to the plate in the first inning against Philadelphia and scoring ten runs, announces on the air that if the Pirates lose the game, he would walk back to Pittsburgh. To show how bizarre this game was, "power hitter" Steve Jeltz became the first player in the 106 year history of the Phillie's franchise to hit a home run from each side of the plate in the same game.
