    Reports say West Brighton native Jim Engles is leaving NJIT after eight seasons to take over the Ivy League Columbia University program. Engles, 47, coached the Highlanders to back-to-back 20-win seasons in Newark over the past two seasons, winning him Coach of the Year recognition in gthe metropolitan area and beyond.

    A few seasons back New Jersey Institute of Technology was a basketball backwater with a fledgling Division I program that went 0-29 in 2007-08 and 1-30 the following year. The Highlanders, under Island native Jim Engles, and with the help of several local players along the way, were engineered to a total turnaround 20-12 last season.
