The Red Foxes won 12-0 in game one, and earned a 14-3 victory in a contest shortened to six innings due to mercy rule in the second game.

Marist came out of the gate shooting low on Hawks' senior goalie Katie Donohoe, as Gionta's consecutive scores gave the Red Foxes a 2-1 lead with 11:30 left in the first half. With 1:56 to play, sophomore Hayley Burke netted her first of three goals on a free position shot to make it 5-3 at the midway point.

The Hawks handed the Red Foxes their only Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference loss during the 2014 regular season, but Marist took down Monmouth 13-7 in last year's MAAC Tournament semifinals. Seven Marist players found the back of the net in the Red Foxes' 13-7 win at Niagara on April 8. Two of the game's first four goals came on free position attempts.
