    Marist softball catcher/second baseman Claire Oberdorf was named one of 10 finalists for the 2016 Schutt Sports/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I National Freshman of the Year, it was announced Thursday. The organization had chosen Oberdorf to be on the top 25 list April 21. The top three finalists for the award will be voted on and released May 25. The recipient will be presented with the trophy during a live ceremony at the Women's College World Series banquet May 31. Oberdorf was selected Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year during the league's awards banquet May 11 in McCann Center.

Jayne Oberdorf was named Pitcher of the Year, Claire Oberdorf was honored as Rookie of the Year, Kyrsten Van Natta won Defensive Player of the Year, and Joe Ausanio received the Coach of the Year honor.
