Outland started his collegiate football career at Penn College in Iowa playing the 1891 and 1892 seasons, ended it in Philadelphia at the University of Pennsylvania during the 1897 and 1898 campaigns, all the while squeezing in two seasons at KU in 1895 and 1896 .
