I'm just going to get this out the way and confess that I've never seen the film version of Footloose, ever! So it was with plenty curiosity that I took my seat to see the stage version open at the Tyne Theatre and Opera House in Newcastle on Tuesday night.

But that was a long, long time ago, and the plot of Footloose - both the 1984 movie and Footloose , the 1998 musical now being presented by BDT Stage - feels pretty dated.
