    Jun 20, 2017 | Daily Texan

Out of all the movies under Pixar's belt, "Cars" least deserved a sequel. Though decent, it lifted its plot straight out of the Michael J. Fox comedy "Doc Hollywood" and simply substituted anthropomorphic automobiles for people.

"Cars 3" is a genial, easy-going throwback. Not just to the previous Pixar films in the series but to the early days of parent company Disney, when Walt walked the earth and sweetly earnest lessons about what's important in life inspired movies that put smiles on faces all over town.

    Jun 15, 2017 | KAZR-FM Des Moines

As great as the Disney/Pixar lineup is - and it's pretty great - the "Cars" franchise sits low in the batting order, especially after the debacle that was "Cars 2" six years ago. "Cars 3" rebounds nicely, but still can't match the meaningful substance of Pixar's best.

There's more to life than winning races, a message that Cars 3 delivers to two-legged moviegoers through its four-wheeled protagonists. However, it seems the 11-year-old franchise refuses to acknowledge its own platitudes about retiring with dignity, as this third installment in the animated series once again tries to recapture its glory despite being well past its prime.

    Jun 15, 2017 | Sfist

I have a theory that I've, admittedly, not really done much to prove aside from talking to friends with kids: Pixar's Cars movies are the ones parents like the least, while their kids love them the most. I know plenty of adults who can burst into tears just talking about Toy Story 3 or Inside Out , but none who speak about Cars or Cars 2 with any genuine sense of fondness.

"Cars 3" owes as much of a debt to the "Rocky" sequels as its own previous editions, built as it is around an aging fighter training for one last shot at a championship.
