    A renewed effort to ban texting and driving in Arizona amid a national movement to enact tougher distracted driving laws has run out of steam three weeks into the Arizona Legislature's 2017 session, leaving only a watered-down version of the legislation that would affect teenage drivers. The Republican chairman of an Arizona Senate panel where numerous bills restricting texting while driving are assigned said Tuesday he'll only allow hearings for the proposal that would ban texting by young drivers who have just gotten their licenses.

Motorists headed to Mexico zipped by about 50 demonstrators at the Otay Mesa port of entry connecting San Diego and Tijuana, many of them honking to show support.

In a jailhouse interview, 31-year-old Lisa Ann Luna says she had taken methamphetamine in the past but on Thursday when she stole a Maricopa County Sheriff's Office pickup truck she had been poisoned by a relative.

    Attorneys continued the jury selection process Thursday morning in Yuma County Superior Court in the upcoming capital murder trial of Preston Strong, the man charged in connection to the 2005 La Mesa Street murders. During the hearing, Superior Court Judge Maria Elena Cruz, who is presiding over the case, informed the prosecution and defense that all 427 jury questionnaires have been returned, and they each should receive copies of them by noon.

Randall Charles Tucker has pleaded not guilty to charges of intentional damage to protected computers and threatening damage to protected computers for allegedly attacking municipal computer systems in March 2015 in the city of Madison and two Phoenix suburbs, Chandler and Mesa.
