Mitch McConnell to a sixth term rather than punish the nation's top Republican by sending Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes to Washington. The poll - conducted for WKYT-TV, the Lexington Herald-Leader, the Louisville Courier-Journal, and WHAS-TV - found the longtime Kentucky senator's re-election bid leading 48 percent to Grimes' 43 percent in his strongest showing to date.

    A high school football coach in Louisville has been suspended from the sidelines after officials say he failed to quickly report an off-campus gun incident involving students. Jefferson County Public Schools spokesman Ben Jackey told several media outlets that Moore Traditional High coach Eric Dick remains a teacher, but has been relieved of coaching responsibilities indefinitely.

    A high school soccer coach in central Kentucky has been suspended after being recorded using profanity and calling on his players to injure opponents. Hardin County Schools' spokesman John Wright says John Hardin boys coach Alex Shearer's conduct forced the decision to ban him from the sidelines, at least temporarily.

    With two weeks to go before the November 4 election, a new Bluegrass Poll found Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell in a near dead heat with Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes. The poll - conducted for WKYT-TV, the Lexington Herald-Leader, the Louisville Courier-Journal, and WHAS-TV - found the longtime Kentucky senator has a slight edge in the race with Grimes leading 44 percent to 43 percent.

The Courier-Journal reports Nevada-based real estate investor Jared Weiss, who brought the property two years ago, has joined with Lawrence, Kansas-based 19th Century Restorations to restore the home.

    The poll - conducted for WKYT-TV, the Lexington Herald-Leader, the Louisville Courier-Journal, and WHAS-TV - found the majority of the 632 likely voters think the University of Kentucky will win its upcoming football game with rival Louisville. Fifty-one percent of those polled believe the Wildcats will beat the Louisville Cardinals on November 29. Less than a third thought Louisville will win with the remaining 23 percent saying they're unsure.
