Stepan, who has been an essential Ranger since joining the club out of Wisconsin in 2010-11, all but certainly left money on the table in the long run - as did fellow Bluebloods Dan Girardi, Marc Staal, Mats Zuccarello and Henrik Lundqvist before him when they re-upped as pending free agents - but the deal is most certainly fair for both parties.
