    Mere days after Catholic Memorial learned that Steve Showalter would not, in fact, be leading the boys basketball program next year, the Crusaders hired former Kettle Moraine and Marquette assistant Mike Serath for the position. Showalter, who led Germantown to three straight state titles before joining a college coaching staff in 2015, had agreed to take the position in early May. But news emerged June 4 that he was considering a position at Menomonee Falls High School, a spot he ultimately took three days later.

    The Mad Rooster Cafe is one step closer to becoming a fixture on a prominent corner just north of downtown Waukesha. The city's plan commission June 8 unanimously approved preliminary site and architectural plans for the project, a 7,000-square foot country-themed restaurant that will replace the vacated Hardee's building at 130 NW Barstow St. The proposed plans still need to come before the commission for final approval, but city staff and commissioners seemed pleased with the latest iteration and called for further review of only a few items, such as lawn props that would be displayed on the building's east side.
