    Veterinarians at a local animal shelter have discovered a dog taken in this week has both male and female genitals. Detroit Animal Control transferred the dog to the nonprofit, no-kill shelter Detroit Dog Rescue on Tuesday, presenting the canine as a male.

Galapagos Executive Director Robert Elmes told the New York Times then that they bought nine buildings totaling 600,000 square feet in Detroit for the price of a "small apartment in New York City."

    The Detroit Pistons, in their latest philanthropic effort to help boost their reputation with the young, urban fanbase, unveiled Thursday a six-figure donation to help jumpstart a recreation basketball league for kids in the city of Detroit. The partnership and $300,000 contribution, made by Pistons owner Tom Gores, Palace Sports & Entertainment vice chairman Arn Tellem and the Detroit Pistons Foundation, will go to the non-profit Detroit Police Athletic League to bring the franchise's "Jr. Pistons" and NBA's "Jr. NBA" programs to Detroit.

John Conyers has joined a group of Democratic lawmakers in calling on the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality to reject a permit that would allow Marathon Oil to release more pollutants into the air at its southwest Detroit refinery. Like a group of state senators did earlier in the week , Conyers referred to the MDEQ's botched assessment of flawed changes to the public water system in Flint, where the state agency last year told residents they could safely drink from their faucets, months before elevated lead levels were discovered in children who underwent blood testing.
