    A recent survey showing "slight improvement" in air pollution releases from Yakima County dairies isn't easing the concerns of neighbors and environmentalists, especially with a new study linking ammonia from manure to decreased lung function in children with asthma. In 2014, survey officials gave 12 percent of the dairies a D score on a program of management practices designed to reduce air pollution from manure and dust.

    Granger Police Chief Robert Perales, who pleaded not guilty to perjury and stalking charges this morning in Yakima County Superior court, was again ordered to surrender his firearms. Perales, who has been on paid administrative leave since Feb. 5, is due back in court for a status hearing on May 12, and his trial is scheduled to begin May 23. Charges against 53-year-old Perales stem from a harassment case filed against him by his ex-girlfriend last May. At that time, she successfully secured a no-contact order that required him to surrender his firearms.
