    Law enforcement has seen an increase in shake and bake meth labs in the area, creating a risk for those helping to clean up roadways. Sheriff John Spears with the Vernon County Sheriff's Office said bottles found along roadways that are in fact shake and bake containers, often are duct-taped shut, have holes on the lid, and appear darker than usual.

    Vernon County Sheriff John Spears said a suicidal suspect led police on a chase that went through La Crosse, Vernon and Crawford counties. Authorities put out road spikes near the Lansing Dike, blowing the tires on the suspect's vehicle but the driver kept going.

    The chase started in La Crosse and went south into Vernon and Crawford counties, to the Lansing bridge and back, before the vehicle eventually was stopped on highway 35 near De Soto. The Vernon County sheriff says the apparently suicidal suspect reached speeds up to 80 miles an hour and police eventually had to pin the vehicle between squads to slow it down.

Then the suspect turned on Rush Creek Road in Crawford County, drove around the back roads and got on County Road B. Authorities say eventually the suspect got back on Highway 35 and was stopped by authorities in De Soto.
