    On Tuesday, April 7, the North Carolina Court of Appeals ruled in a unanimous decision to vacate a $91 million jury verdict awarded to the Union County Board of Education in a lawsuit against Union County in 2013. The court of appeals decided the budget dispute between the Union County Board of Education and the Union County Board of Commissioners in 2013 was restricted to the budget amount requested by the Board of Education for the 2013-14 fiscal year and that the trial court erred in allowing the Board of Education to introduce evidence of needs that were not part of that year's budget request, according to the release.

On March 31, Larson pleaded guilty to four child abuse-related charges and was sentenced to 17 months in prison.

Wanda Sue Larson, 58, entered the guilty plea on two felony and two misdemeanor counts in a child abuse case where her then 11-year-old foster child was found chained to her porch with a dead chicken tied around his neck in 2013.
