The two-story single family home was unoccupied at the time of the blaze and had been unoccupied for approximately 10 to 12 years, Rome said.

    The Sussex County YMCA has launched initiatives promoting better nutrition and exercise using a $10,000 grant from Atlantic Health System to teach children to grow vegetables and to inspire shoppers to increase their daily steps. In the spring, students in the YMCA's after-school care program at Franklin Borough School planted cherry tomatoes, basil and lettuce in using aeroponics, a gardening method that requires no soil.

    NEWTON - More than a year after he was convicted for his role in the January 2010 kidnapping of a Newton businessman, Douglas Stangeland remains in a vegetative state on life support, the New Jersey Herald reported. Sussex County First Assistant Prosecutor Greg Mueller told the court Stangeland has not regained consciousness since he had a heart attack shortly after his conviction, according to the newspaper.

    A heat wave, commonly described as three or more consecutive days of temperatures at or above 90 degrees, is on the horizon for Sussex County, beginning with temperatures climbing into the 90s this afternoon and hanging there throughout the weekend, with the humidity producing heat index values and a "real feel" between 95 and 100 degrees for the next several days, according to meteorologist Mitchell Gaines with the National Weather Service in Mount Holly. "It's going to be in place here for the next five days because it is abnormally strong," Gaines said Thursday about the heat wave.

Stangeland was convicted in May 2015 of conspiracy to commit murder, first-degree kidnapping, robbery and a slew of other charges connected to Jeffrey Muller's kidnapping in a case of mistaken identity.
