    One person was taken to an area hospital after a two-vehicle wreck on State Highway 21 in Sabine County that caused the road to be blocked for part of the day Thursday. Sgt. David Hendry, a spokesman for the Texas Department, said that the section of SH 21 that had been closed because of the wreck is now open again.

    After officials at the Newton County jail overheard an inmate talking about a tractor stolen in Tyler County, Newton County Sheriff Billy Knowles and Tyler County Sheriff Bryan Weatherford put their heads together to get the equipment back to its rightful owner. David Doyle of Louisiana admitted to investigators that he had stolen the tractor, and he later led them to an area off County Road 45465 near Spurger where the tractor was found.

Tyler County Sheriff Bryan Weatherford said in a press release that the Texas Rangers are investigating the death of Amie Coon, 41. He said Coon was found unresponsive in her cell at the Tyler County Jail Sunday night.

Kenneth David Smith appeared in a Sabine County district court for a plea hearing on Aug. 10. According to the text of the judgment East Texas News obtained on Monday, Smith pleaded guilty to a state-jail felony theft charge.
