    One week after a special judge indicated there would be no May 9 special election relating to rezoning property on Marina Way, he ruled Friday morning in Pope County Circuit Court that the election will go on as scheduled. Jason Browning of Little Rock, who represented the group Citizens Protecting our Neighborhoods, said Friday even though Special Judge Russell Rogers emailed representatives for the plaintiffs and the defendants March 22 that there would be no special election May 9, an actual ruling was not filed by the judge.

    The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down briefly in Pope County on Wednesday evening, but meteorologists said more severe storms that were expected overnight didn't form. A short-lived twister formed in a field on Gunner Mountain Road near Hector about 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, said meteorologist Heather Cross of the National Weather Service in North Little Rock.

    The National Weather Service in Little Rock said a tornado touched down Wednesday in Pope County as a severe storm system moved through Arkansas. The weather service reported at 7:20 p.m. that a rain-wrapped tornado was on the ground on Gunter Mountain Road in Hector, a town of about 500 people northeast of Scottsville.

Three candidates for the position remain -- Phyllis Carruth, the wife of former Alderman and Mayor Phil Carruth, Andrew Barrett and Chuck Frankhouse. Harris, who previously served as alderman for Ward 1, Position 2 and decided not to seek re-election in 2016, said travel obligations would not give him the time he wanted to commit to serve the residents.

Hamilton, 22, chained himself to an excavator Monday on State Highway 27 -- a pipeline access road for the Diamond Pipeline -- a protest feat which landed him in jail for second-degree criminal mischief with a $2,500 bond. According to a report by the Pope County Sheriff's Office , officers responded to a call of a criminal trespass and were informed by an employee of Delta Directional Drilling a protester had chained himself to an excavator.

Giles and Grant Cox, attorneys for Landers Holding LLC, representatives from the group Citizens Protecting our Neighborhoods, and David Gibbons representing the Pope County Election Commission, received an email from Judge Russell Rogers after the plaintiffs and intervenors turned in informational briefs on the issues of the case by noon Monday.
