Va., to Pittsylvania County could mean air pollution at a compressor station in Chatham, threaten private-property rights and affect farmers in the region. The project's proposed 42-inch natural gas pipeline is "enormous" and farmers would have to negotiate crossing points along the pipeline where possible ruptures caused by heavy farm equipment would be a risk, said Mara Robbins, with the Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League.
